Safety measures to ensure a safe Diwali

Heyy,

The festival of light is here!

When people are gearing up to celebrate the most awaited festival of the year, there is also a sense of fear due to pollution and fire accidents. however, as the saying goes – “Better safe than sorry” so it is advisable to follow a few safety measures to ensure a safe Festival of Lights for you and your loved ones.

WHAT IS DIWALI??

Diwali is India's biggest and most important festival of the year. Also known as the festival of lights, this festival celebrates light winning over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Diwali is the day  Lord Rama, his wife Sita Devi, and brother Lakshmana return to their homeland after 14 years in exile and after Krishna's Victory over Narakasura.

SAFETY MEASURES

Maintain ventilation

Keep your doors and windows open to allow proper ventilation. Ventilation allows the air to circulate thus keeping the house fresh.

But make sure not to keep your doors and windows open too long during the evening as the pollution levels are too high during the evening hours.

Do not use sanitizer before lighting the candle or Diya

Don't use hand sanitizer before lighting diyas, sanitizers contain alcohol (alcohol-based), which makes them inflammable; thus using them right before lighting diyas can lead to fire and burn.

Keep the sanitizer away from fire

Sanitizer can easily catch fire thus make sure to keep the sanitizer bottle away from candles and  diyas

Maintain social distancing

Avoid large gatherings for the Diwali party. Try to celebrate Diwali at home with your
Family and close friends if you’re meeting someone outside, maintain social distancing and remember not to shake hands with anyone

Do not exercise outdoor

The pollution levels are soaring high right now. So, instead of skipping your workout, choose to exercise indoors. It's also recommended to limit outdoor activities for children at this time.

Keep inhaler and medicines handy

People who have asthma should keep their inhalers handy. People suffering from any other respiratory issue should keep their medicines handy and follow all the precautions to have a safe and happy Diwali.

Cotton garments

Make sure everyone in the family – kids and adults both – wear cotton clothes while playing with fireworks. Synthetic fabrics catch fire very quickly.

Well-fitted clothes

Make sure your children’s arms and legs are covered in well-fitted clothes. Fire catches easily on flowing, trailing garments. For the girls, make sure the dupatta is pinned back properly.

Quality of crackers

Purchase firecrackers only from legal manufacturers and make sure to read the instructions before using them. Good-quality firecrackers reduce the risk of mishaps.

Emergency numbers

Make sure you have the emergency numbers noted down – numbers of doctors, fire station, police station, etc in case of any emergency.

First Aid Kit

The most important safety tip is keeping a first aid kit handy for emergency purposes.

Fire extinguisher

Keep a fire extinguisher nearby while bursting firecrackers. A bucket of water or sand can also come in handy in tackling a minor fire mishap.

Discard used fireworks

Discard the used firecrackers with care. You can either put them in a bucket of water or cover them with sand to dissipate the heat.

Safe and happy Diwali !!!
